Naples is unusually convenient for cruise passengers: the main Stazione Marittima terminal sits beside the historic and monumental centre, while Pompeii and Herculaneum are realistic rail excursions if your call is long enough.

Stazione Marittima at Molo Angioino is the main cruise terminal. It faces straight into central Naples, with Castel Nuovo and Piazza Municipio immediately beyond the port area.
Shuttle Bus Pick-Up & Drop-Off Details: Because the ship berths practically in the heart of the city, mandatory port shuttle buses are neither required nor operated for local town transit. Official taxis and hop-on, hop-off tour buses are stationed directly outside the terminal exit.
Getting into Naples
Can you walk? Yes, exceptionally easily. .For the main terminal, walking is normally the simplest option. The cruise terminals sit right at the edge of the city, making it a flat 10-minute walk (about 0.5 miles) from the ship gangway past the Castel Nuovo straight into the historic center and Piazza Municipio. Municipio Metro Line 1 is the nearest useful rapid-transit stop for Toledo, Museo and Garibaldi.
History of Naples
Founded around the 6th century BC by Greek colonists as Neapolis ("New City"), Naples boasts over 2,500 years of continuous urban history, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It flourished successively under Roman, Byzantine, Norman, Spanish, and Bourbon rule as one of Europe's grandest imperial capitals, leaving behind a dense, dramatic urban landscape defined by medieval castles, underground catacombs, and a UNESCO-listed historic center.
What to visit in Naples
Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino): The iconic 13th-century medieval fortress with massive round towers standing right across from the cruise terminal. Naples Historic Center (Centro Storico): A dense, vibrant UNESCO World Heritage labyrinth of bustling streets (like Spaccanapoli), historic churches, and authentic Neapolitan pizzerias. Galleria Umberto I: A magnificent 19th-century glass-vaulted shopping arcade featuring ornate ironwork and marble floors, located just steps from the port. National Archaeological Museum (MANN): One of the world's premier archaeological museums, housing extraordinary Roman and Greek antiquities, mosaics, and artifacts recovered from Pompeii and Herculaneum.

From Stazione Marittima, head out toward Piazza Municipio and Castel Nuovo. You do not normally need a shuttle simply to reach the city centre.
Use Line 1 for Toledo, Museo and Garibaldi. ANM Tap&Go is available on the Metro.
For Pompeii or Herculaneum, reach Napoli Piazza Garibaldi / Centrale and change to the EAV network.
