Cruise Port Overview
Limassol is not a walk-off old-town port, but the public-bus connection is unusually direct: Route 30 stops at the New Port Passenger Building and at the Old Port.

Getting into town
Can you walk? No. The cruise terminal sits within an active commercial and container port zone about 5 kilometers (3 miles) west of the historic city center. Walking through the industrial gate lanes is not permitted or recommended. Shuttle Bus Pick-Up & Drop-Off Details: Depending on your cruise line, a shuttle bus is either provided or available for purchase to take passengers from the shipside terminal directly to the Old Port/Marina area (a 10 to 15-minute journey). Alternatively, the local EMEL Bus No. 30 stops right outside the port gate, running frequently along the coast toward the city center for a low fare. Taxis are also readily available at the terminal.
History of Limassol
Inhabited since antiquity, Limassol (Lemesos) flourished between the ancient city-kingdoms of Amathus and Kourion. During the Crusades, it gained legendary fame in 1191 when King Richard the Lionheart conquered the island and married Berengaria of Navarre at Limassol Castle, crowning her Queen of England. Over the centuries, it passed through Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian, and Ottoman rule before developing into Cyprus's primary commercial hub and modern maritime capital.
What to Visit
Limassol Castle & Medieval Museum: A historic 14th-century fort built over earlier Byzantine foundations, housing medieval armor, pottery, and artifacts. Limassol Marina: A modern, upscale waterfront development featuring luxury yachts, high-end restaurants, and seaside promenades. Molos Promenade: A scenic 3-kilometer coastal park stretching along the Mediterranean, lined with palm trees, modern art sculptures, and bicycle paths. Old Town Artisan Lanes: A charming labyrinth of narrow streets surrounding Saripolou Square, packed with traditional cafes, craft shops, and restored stone buildings.

Kourion Archaeological Site: Located about 20 minutes west, featuring a magnificent 2nd-century Greco-Roman theater perched on a cliff overlooking the sea and lavish mosaic floors at the House of Eustolios. Kolossi Castle: A formidable 15th-century Crusader stronghold surrounded by vineyards that historically produced Commandaria, one of the world's oldest named wines. Paphos: Located about an hour west along the coast, offering UNESCO-listed Roman mosaics, the Tombs of the Kings, and the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite (Petra tou Romiou).

Limassol is easy independently once you use Route 30. The Old Port, castle, marina and Molos need no tour. Kourion is the strongest major excursion; Kolossi pairs naturally with it. Amathus is simpler for a shorter eastbound archaeological add-on.
